Caylun combines a passion for technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship with a strong legal foundation. While studying IT Law at the University of Groningen, he founded Startup-Recht — to fill a gap in the market: specialized and modern legal partners focused entirely on (tech) startups and scale-ups.
As founder, Caylun is not only a legal expert but also the commercial and marketing mind behind Startup-Recht. Having experienced both the successes and failures of running a tech startup himself, he understands the challenges entrepreneurs face. That background makes him sharp, critical, and solution-driven — always playing “devil’s advocate” to arrive at the best possible strategy.
His expertise lies at the intersection of IT law, (commercial) contract law, and intellectual property law. He focuses on topics such as AI regulation, data governance, and software protection, ensuring that digital and creative ideas are not only legally secured but also positioned to scale. Beyond the legal side, Caylun actively contributes to the commercial and strategic growth of startups and scale-ups.
Maarten combines his expertise in corporate and tax law with a broad academic background.
During his double degree in Law and American Studies at the University of Groningen, he developed a unique perspective on both the legal and socio-economic contexts in which businesses operate.
As co-founder of Startup-Recht, Maarten focuses on the legal and fiscal challenges startups and scale-ups face daily. His specialization in corporate structuring, tax optimization, and governance makes him the ideal sparring partner for entrepreneurs who want to grow their business on a solid legal and fiscal foundation. Within Startup-Recht, he’s the financial and fiscal brain behind the operation.
His expertise spans corporate law, tax law, structuring, and commercial contract law, with an additional focus on IT-related legal issues and real estate (tenancy) law.
Maarten’s mission is to make complex legal and fiscal matters understandable — giving entrepreneurs the freedom to focus on what they do best: innovate and build.
